3) Check out the FAQ’s
3.1) I can’t run Toolbag. I receive an “Access Violation” error. What gives?
This error is typically a result of a graphics driver problem. Ensure you meet minimum hardware specifications and update the drivers for your graphics card. For quick reference:

3.2) I want to move my license of Toolbag to a new computer. How can I do this?
Because our licensing system is node-locked, your individual license of Toolbag can only be activated on one computer at a time. If you wish to move your license to a new home PC, laptop, or work computer, please use the license transfer utility included in your installation of Marmoset Toolbag. Full instructions can be found in your ToolbagUserManual.pdf.
3.3) My hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall Windows, now my license will not work.
If you have had more than a few hardware changes to your PC, or had to reinstall Windows, your hardware fingerprint for Toolbag has most likely changed, thus invalidating your license key.
If this is the case, please run ALL necessary Windows updates, install ALL new hardware drivers, then email us your PC’s new hardware fingerprint – found on Toolbag’s ‘Enter Key’ window – as well as your original invoice ID for license verification.
3.4) I’m a hip Mac user. Can I use Marmoset Toolbag, too?
We only offer a Windows (XP/Vista/7) build of Marmoset Toolbag at this time. We have heard the requests loud and clear and we will hopefully bring some Mac & Linux love to an inevitable 2.0 release of Toolbag. Time-table for a 2.0 release is presently unknown.
In the meantime, Mac users can enjoy Toolbag on the Windows partition of an Intel Mac using Bootcamp.
Note: On a dual-boot Mac, do not attempt to activate your license while using a virtual machine/software emulation. Boot up directly to the Windows partition.
3.5) My evaluation download won’t work/keeps hanging. How do I fix this?
Often times PC security tools or Antivirus software can conflict with downloading an .exe. If you have troubles downloading the Toolbag evaluation installer the first time:
- Make sure your internet connection is solid and does not have any service interruptions at the moment.
- Temporarily disable any 3rd party antivirus or PC security tools
- Try the download link* again.
Note: For security purposes, if you attempt the download link more than 3 times and each attempt fails, you will need to contact us to reset your download link.
3.6) I’m a 3ds Max user. Can I still import my model’s rig and animations?
Toolbag can only read animation data using Marmoset Engine’s proprietary file formats. To export your animation data in those formats, you must use the Stooge Export plugin, which is presently only offered for Maya. However, you can get your rig and animations out of Max and into Toolbag using the following workflow:
- Export model, rig, and animation data from 3ds Max using FBX file format.
- Import FBX into Maya.
- Export using the Stooge Export plugin (see Toolbag User Manual for walkthrough on this process).
- Import your .mesh, .skel, and .anim’s into Toolbag!
